Seats

Each kingdom’s seat is its biggest castle, grown into an estate 355 to 425 m across. A seat stands alone where it can, on dry ground, with villages near.

The palace of a kingdom’s seat.

  • Two rings of wall round two inner wards.
  • A big outer bailey cut into three wards.
  • Walls two storeys higher than an ordinary castle’s, about five in all, and a keep a storey taller and wider.
  • Timber hoardings on every tower, where its builders hoard.

A palace hall of three storeys, five lodgings, a great stable, a menagerie, a minster, a barn, a storehouse, a workshop and barracks, with six gardens and a tilt yard. Outside are stew ponds and a deer park lodge.

The king holds court here. For three days before the Goddess’s Night, lords’ armies march home to their seats. Oaths are sworn and renounced at a lord’s seat while he is at home: open the great hall’s Heads tab. See Diplomacy.
