Treeline pine

A trunk wrung by the wind with stacked cones of needles up it, following its twists. It leans downhill, and the nearer the snow, the smaller it grows.

About 6 m tall out in the open.

Land How many of the trees
Mountain All the trees
Snow All the trees, smallest of all

Trees of a kind keep together in stands about 60 m across.

It keeps its needles all year. Snow lies thicker on its boughs than on the leafy trees.

Its trunk stops men and horses, who go round it. Wildfire leaves it black and bare, and burnt or felled ground grows back over about four years.
