Buildings
Every place is built from real buildings. You can ride through the lanes, walk in at the doors, climb the stairs and walk the walls of towns, castles and walled manors.
A building with a job hangs its sign and sets out the things of its trade. Stand at its door and press F to open its screen, and a line names the building. On the map, click a place to see its buildings; each opens once your army is there.
Storeys
Section titled “Storeys”A storey is 3 m. Houses in villages have up to two, and in towns up to three. Stairs run up the inside of a wall. You step up anything no higher than 0.4 m. In some places the upper storeys of houses jut out over the street.
Each floor bears on its walls. Knock out a wall and what it held comes down. Timber, thatch and wattle and daub burn. See Sieges.
Walls and gates
Section titled “Walls and gates”Town and castle walls have walks along their tops, reached by stairs. Gates shut for the curfew and when an alarm is raised, and drawbridges rise with them.
Where they stand
Section titled “Where they stand”Each building has its own page.
In the way
Section titled “In the way”Hedges, walls and fences stop men and horses, who pass only by the gates. A wicket gate lets a man on foot through but not a horse. Hen houses, pigsties, a green’s tree and its benches are in the way too. A jump clears a bench but not a fence.
Detail by distance
Section titled “Detail by distance”A place shows every building while you are within 750 m of its houses, a simpler model out to 2.5 km, and its map icon beyond.
