No temple is a building. The Temple’s way is worked stone: a town’s, castle’s or manor’s temple is one ring of dressed uprights with lintels, its way in facing the midsummer sunrise. The old way is rough, mossy, leaning stone: a village’s temple is a stone circle by the green, with a recumbent altar stone and a king stone outside, small in any village and bigger from 14 buildings. A town’s first temple stands on a square off the market, one more from 25 houses, then one for every 20 more. Every rite is kept in the open before the altar stone, and the folk who take refuge at a temple huddle by its altar, where raiders spare them. At a town temple’s altar (F), give to the Temple. See Religion.
