Beans

A spring crop of the lowlands and warm or dry land. Reaped into the village barn as grain.
Where it is sown
Section titled “Where it is sown”The share of a field’s sowings that are beans, by the land it lies in:
| Land | Sown as | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Lowlands | Spring corn | 30% |
| Wet ground | Spring corn | 20% |
| Dry ground | Spring corn | 33% |
| Warm ground | Spring corn | 50% |
Winter corn is sown in autumn and spring corn in spring; a three-field village grows both, a two-field village only the winter corn.
The lands are:
- Lowlands: temperate forest and other mild lowland.
- Wet ground: temperate rain forest and marsh.
- Dry ground: steppe, shrubland and desert.
- Warm ground: savanna and jungle.
How it looks
Section titled “How it looks”Dark and leafy, with no ears: pods hang under the leaves, and they ripen black. It stands about 0.8 m full grown, comes up green in spring, ripens through summer, and once cut stands as stubble with sheaves in stooks.
The year in the fields is on Harvest.
