It cuts and thrusts like a sword, harder and further. Held in both hands, it leaves no hand for a shield, which stays slung on the back and guards nothing. Swung sideways in a press, it snags on a tree, a wall or a man of its own side within half a metre of its arc: the blow lands on nobody and takes half a second more to free. Overheads and thrusts never snag. Traders keep half as many as of other weapons: they are dear, slow work. A crude weapon hits 0.6 times as hard as a common one, a poor one 0.75, a fine one 1.25 and a masterwork 1.4.
Made from
Section titled “Made from”A common piece takes 4 kg of iron. A crude one takes 0.6 of that, a poor one three quarters, a fine one half again and a masterwork twice. Traders buy what they lack from the town’s market, so a town with no iron soon has none to sell.
