Hold a thrust in the saddle faster than 10 m/s and the lance is couched under your arm: it strikes the first foe it comes to with the horse’s speed behind it. On foot it is a long, slow spear. In the lists it is blunted. It cannot hang at the side, but a soldier with another weapon at his belt puts the lance by for it once unhorsed, and takes the lance up again in the saddle with nobody within 4 m. A crude weapon hits 0.6 times as hard as a common one, a poor one 0.75, a fine one 1.25 and a masterwork 1.4.
Made from
Section titled “Made from”A common piece takes 4 kg of timber, 1 kg of iron. A crude one takes 0.6 of that, a poor one three quarters, a fine one half again and a masterwork twice. Traders buy what they lack from the town’s market, so a town with no iron soon has none to sell.
