Its cuts and overheads cleave: padding and leather stop only half of what they would of a sword’s cut, though mail and plate stop it fully. Its thrust is weak, 0.6 of a blow. A crude weapon hits 0.6 times as hard as a common one, a poor one 0.75, a fine one 1.25 and a masterwork 1.4.

A common piece takes 2.5 kg of iron. A crude one takes 0.6 of that, a poor one three quarters, a fine one half again and a masterwork twice. Traders buy what they lack from the town’s market, so a town with no iron soon has none to sell.
