Shield

Raised to one side, it stops blows from that side.

Block with a shield and a blow from the side you raise it to is stopped whole. A blow from either side next to it is partly caught:
| Tier | Catches |
|---|---|
| Crude | 30% |
| Poor | 40% |
| Common | 55% |
| Fine | 70% |
| Masterwork | 80% |
A blow from the side across gets through. A two-handed weapon leaves no hand for it: the shield stays slung on the back and guards nothing. A shield covers 120° either side of where you face, and a raised shield turns arrows from inside that cover.
Made from
Section titled “Made from”A common piece takes 4 kg of timber, 1 kg of leather. A crude one takes 0.6 of that, a poor one three quarters, a fine one half again and a masterwork twice. Traders buy what they lack from the town’s market.
