What a common piece stops on its own: . A crude one stops half of that, a poor one two thirds, a fine one four thirds and a masterwork one and a half times. Under or over other layers, each layer stops its share of what gets past the one above it.

A man is drawn in his outermost layer, so a surcoat shows his kingdom’s colours over his armour.

A common piece takes 2 kg of cloth. A crude one takes 0.6 of that, a poor one three quarters, a fine one half again and a masterwork twice, in dyed cloth for the cloth. Traders buy what they lack from the town’s market.
